Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday #9 – Best Character Names!

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday theme is so fun! One of the reasons why I’ve loved as many books as I have is because of the characters. The characters of a book are so powerful and can sometime make or break a story. For me, if I don’t connect with the characters it can really lead me to dislike the book – even if the story is entertaining.

For those of you who are not familiar, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where she assigns a new topic each week and posts a top ten list to follow that theme. We’re free to put our own spin on it, but that’s the general idea.

The theme for this week is best character names and we are allowed to make it as broad or narrow as we would like. For my post, I have decided to list ten character names that I not only like but find match the character’s personality. These characters also happen to be some of my favourite fictional characters!

Let’s get into the list!

Dumbledore

Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

Ok, so I think Dumbledore is self-explanatory. He’s just one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series and I think his name suits his loyalty to and position in Hogwarts.

Mare Barrow

Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard

Mare is definitely one of my favourite characters. She is strong and loyal. She can be bitter but she is also fiercely dedicated to the cause at hand. I think having a single syllable name makes her that much stronger.

Chaol Westfall

Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

I’m not entirely sure if I can pinpoint exactly why I like this name. I think it sounds like a strong and loyal name. I’ve only read the first two books in the Throne of Glass series and I’m not sure if this will continue, but his character seems incredibly loyal to the Crown and his friends, which is why I feel like the name fits him. We’ll see if this opinion changes as I continue the series!

Will Herondale

The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare

Oh Will, how I love you Will! He is definitely one of my all time favourite Cassandra Clare characters. His name almost sounds regal. I think it totally fits with his witty personality that can sometimes be a bit cocky. But at the same time, he is sweet and considerate.

Hermione Granger

Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

Hermione will always be a favourite of mine. Her name just sounds smart, just like her. She is intelligent and always thinks outside the box. Her name resonates with me as being a strong and knowledgable character.

Lira

To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

This name really resonated with me throughout my time reading this book. I felt like Lira’s name changed and grew alongside her throughout the book and I loved it. At the start, it sounded evil and sinister, just like her. But as she grew and changed as a person, so did the name.

Magnus Bane

The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare

I just love the name Magnus Bane. He’s another favourite character of Cassandra Clare’s novels. It is such a catchy name and fits with his sassy and witty personality. i don’t think there will ever be a time where I don’t like his name.

Maven Calore

Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard

Maven Maven Maven. I have so many thoughts about him. He’s so sinister, cocky, and selfish. His name sounds incredibly regal but also sounds like a name that you don’t want to get to close too. Overall, I think it’s a good name, especially for his character.

Finnick Odair

The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins

When I read the Hunger Games series and watched the movies, Finnick was one of my favourites. If you asked me to pinpoint why, I couldn’t tell you. I just know that he’s always stuck with me as an enjoyable character throughout the series. I just love how unique his name is, just like him!

Rhysand

A Court of Thorns and Roses Series by Sarah J. Maas

Rhysand obviously had to be apart of this list. He’s my favourite. Love him to pieces and I think he is just such an awesome fictional character. His name is so unique and versatile (Rhysand, Rhys? – it’s the best)! It’s a name that totally fits his personality and grows with him with each book in the series.

Well! Those are my top ten character names that I like and feel match their personalities! They’re also some of my favourite fictional characters.

Did any of these names make your list? What is one of your favourite character names?

Happy Tuesday!!
