Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday #8 – Books I’m Really Glad I Read!

Today’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday is books I disliked/hated but am really glad I read. I’ve mentioned before that compiling lists of books I disliked/hated is hard because I often have found that I rarely hate a book. But, some books are not for everyone! All of the books in this week’s lists are books I disliked. I can’t say I’ve ever hated a book. There have just been some I’ve enjoyed more than others!

For those of you who are not familiar, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl where she assigns a new topic each week and posts a top ten list to follow that theme.  We’re free to put our own spin on it, but that’s the general idea.

A Study in Charlotte

Beautiful Creatures

Paper Towns

Vampire Diaries

Hunger

The Selection

Evermore

Vampire Academy

I Am Number Four

The Fault in Our Stars

A lot of these books I’m glad I read them because I can enjoy the satisfaction of saying I read them. While they weren’t my favourite books, I certainly did not hate them in any way.  They mostly were just underwhelming for me or didn’t live up to the hype for me!

What book did you dislike or hate that you’re most glad you read?

Happy Reading!!

  • I love The Selection, VA and I am Number four ! But well, not every book is for everyone!
I need to read A Study in Charlotte.
    My TTT.

    • I found with all of those books there was something in them that I liked and enjoyed, but overall they didn’t live up to the hype. I’m so glad that you love them though!! ✨ That’s the best part of the book community, there are books for everyone! Your TTT was a great list!

  • I’m surprised to see a few lists giving Fault in Our Stars as one. I didn’t expect it to be on lists, but everyone’s tastes do differ. Personally, I liked Study in Charlotte. My son really did not like Paper Towns though. Very good, interesting, list.

    • I did like the Fault in Our Stars but overall I wasn’t obsessed with it nor did I fall into line with all of its hype so I think that’s why I added it to this list. Part of me wants to try Study in Charlotte again sometime but we’ll see – I’m glad to hear you liked it! Thanks for the compliment!! 😊

  • The only one of these I’ve read is The Selection, but I really loved it at the time! I wonder if I’d still enjoy it…

    • I have that feeling a lot of the time. There are so many books that I’ve loved in the past and then I’m like … well, if I read it today, would I still like it? The age old question, ha! You have an awesome TTT list!

Beautiful Creatures! Oh, how I disliked how that ended and I also didn’t like Paper Towns! Great list.

  • Great list! I quite disliked Beautiful Creatures, Paper Towns and The Vampire Diaries as well, but am still glad I read them… if only to know I actually liked the movie or tv show version better 🙂

  • I was not a fan of TFIOS at all, the only reason I could say I was glad I read it is so that if people tried to talk to me about it, I could tell them my honest opinion.

  • John Green is an author that’s overhyped for me. I’m not a big fan of his work, but I’ve yet to read his most recent one! There’s a few on this list that I want to get to so I hope I like them!

    • That’s how I feel too. I’ve liked his books, but I haven’t loved them. I feel like they’re always very overhyped for me, yet I still read them LOL! That’s great! I would definitely say I never hated these books, just wasn’t the biggest fan of them!

I’ll confess I do like “The Selection.” It’s one of my “guilty pleasure” reads. 😀

Still have ‘Charlotte’ on my bookshelf (hope it’s an entertaining read), but I don’t see myself ever reading “Paper Towns.” I saw the film, and didn’t really care for it, though surprisingly I did like TFIOS more than I thought. (Though not enough to ever re-read it.)

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland. 🙂

    • Part of me wonders if I should give it another try sometime, but I just have so many books to read lol!

John Green just isn’t my favourite author, although I have liked his books. I just don’t really get the hype about them.

No problem! Thanks for visiting my site 😊

I don’t think there are any books I really disliked. I used to read a lot and from what I remember there is only one book I couldn’t finish and it was Franz Kafka “The Castle”. Seriously, it was so boring I couldn’t handle reading it to the end. Other than that loved all the books, although I never read any of the ones you listed.

    • It’s such a hard topic because if I typically am not enjoying a read or am leaning towards disliking it, I just don’t finish it. I kind of approached this week’s topic by choosing books that were “ok” in my opinion. Thanks for visiting my site! 😊

  • Great list! I agree with you on Paper Towns, as although I didn’t hate it, it definitely wasn’t as good as I expected it to be.

  • I was not a fan of A Study in Charlotte, but I’m glad I at least satisfied my curiosity.

  • Kay Wisteria says:

Ahaha The Selection is totally my guilty pleasure book (and I read it when I was like 12!) but if I read it for the first time today I might agree xD

  • Great list! Paper Towns was a big letdown for me. I loved Looking for Alaska as a kid (but hate it as an adult, funny enough), and I loved TFIOS, actually (and still do!), so when I finally read Paper Towns, I was soooo bummed that I kind of hated it!

  • Annemieke says:

I ended up not finishing The Vampire Academy series and I wasn’t a fan of I Am Number Four the series either. I dnf-ed that after book 3 I think.
I am still quite curius about A Study in Charlotte.
