In a kingdom by the sea…
In a secret world where half-angel warriors are sworn to fight demons, parabatai is a sacred word.
A parabatai is your partner in battle. A parabatai is your best friend. Parabatai can be everything to each other—but they can never fall in love.
Emma Carstairs is a warrior, a Shadowhunter, and the best in her generation. She lives for battle. Shoulder to shoulder with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, she patrols the streets of Los Angeles, where vampires party on the Sunset Strip, and faeries—the most powerful of supernatural creatures—teeter on the edge of open war with Shadowhunters. When the bodies of humans and faeries turn up murdered in the same way Emma’s parents were when she was a child, an uneasy alliance is formed. This is Emma’s chance for revenge—and Julian’s chance to get back his brother Mark, who is being held prisoner by the faerie Courts. All Emma, Mark, and Julian have to do is solve the murders within two weeks…and before the murderer targets them.
Their search takes Emma from sea caves full of sorcery to a dark lottery where death is dispensed. And each clue she unravels uncovers more secrets. What has Julian been hiding from her all these years? Why does Shadowhunter Law forbid parabatai to fall in love? Who really killed her parents—and can she bear to know the truth?
The darkly magical world of Shadowhunters has captured the imaginations of millions of readers across the globe. Join the adventure in Lady Midnight, the long-awaited first volume of a new trilogy from Cassandra Clare.
Wow. Wow. Wow.
Once again, Cassandra Clare tugs at my heartstrings and breaks my heart all with the written word.
When I first began Lady Midnight, I had trouble getting into the story. Every time I’ve read one of Clare’s books, I’ve quickly been sucked into the world. With Lady Midnight, I consistently would pick the book up just to put it back down again. But I am so, so glad I read this book. It is incredible.
I absolutely LOVE these new characters. I can’t even put into words my love for them. Emma is wonderful. She’s strong and fierce. The unbreakable friendship that Emma and Julian have is something to admire and their chemistry with one another is absolutely undeniable.
Christina is the perfect friend for Emma and I thoroughly enjoyed watching her character develop. Julian’s family is super cute and oh-so adorable. They were the easiest characters to love. Julian’s selflessness and protection of his family, is absolutely tear worthy at some moments.
And who could forget the lovely cameos of some of the best Cassandra Clare characters? I love the precious moments we get with Clary, Jace, Magnus and my lovely, lovely Jem.
Clare’s ability to build such epic, and vivid worlds is truly incredible. I truly enjoyed this entire story and intricately woven it is throughout. Once again, Clare is able to bring me to a point of being truly surprised. I did not see the twists and turns that came my way. Never once did I expect something to happen. The revelations that occur towards the end of the book are so well done.
I can’t wait to pick up Lord of Shadows, to see how this trilogy continues. I highly recommend this book for fans of Cassandra Clare and the Shadowhunter world. I definitely recommend picking up the Mortal Instruments as well as the Infernal Devices before reading this series. There are characters and context from the previous series that are necessary in understanding the events of this story.
