Remember, it’s only a game …

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval – the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show – are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic. And whether Caraval is real or not, Scarlett must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over or a dangerous domino effect of consequences will be set off, and her beloved sister will disappear forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval … beware of getting swept too far away.

Another amazing read of 2017. Caraval was a fantastic read that makes me struggle to collect all of my thoughts.

This book was wonderful, marvellous, and intriguing. It was magical and suspenseful and filled with mischief. I am so surprised that this book is a debut novel; it was written with such poise and skill.

This book never kept me in one direction and I loved that. I was taken through twists and turns, betrayals and sabotages, love and lust. I never once knew where the book was taking me and I found it such a refreshing change from most books I have read before. I loved that the book was set up for the option of a continuation but that it also provided closure for what i had just read. Again, super refreshing.

I loved Scarlett. She was such an interesting main character and heroine. She had flaws and quirks but also such grace and dignity to her. She was powerful and strong in her opinions and choices. I love reading books where I find there to be a strong female lead. The other characters were all just as entertaining and enjoyable to read. They each had strengths and weaknesses that seeped through the pages.

The sequel, Legendary, comes out in May of 2018 and you can guarantee that it will be in my most anticipated reads of 2018 blog post at the end of the year.

Thank you Stephanie Garber. Seriously, thank you.

Rating: ★★★★★  (I wish I could give it more!!)
