I absolutely love the summer months – warm weather and reading outside is a wonderful combination. So today, I’m sharing a list of 10 young adult books to read this summer!
I haven’t posted for Top Ten Tuesday in a while, but I think today’s post is the a great way to get back in the swing of things!
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where she assigns a new topic each week and we post a top ten list to go along with the theme!
Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett: I absolutely adore Jenn Bennett and this book is no exception. It follows Bailey, who is crushing on her online pen pal, “Alex”. After she moves to California to live with her dad, she’s closer to Alex than she knows.
Boardwalk Summer by Michelle Dalton: Boardwalk Summer is the combination of two books in one! Fifteenth Summer follows Chelsea who spends the summer at her Grandmother’s lake house. Sixteenth Summer follows Anna, who meets a young boy at a local tourist destination. With romance and summer vacation, it’s the perfect read.
Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between by Jennifer E. Smith: This one is a short and sweet book that can be finished in a day! This one follows Claire and Aidan as they try to decide whether they should continue dating or break up as they leave for college. It’s a sweet and heartwarming coming-of-age read.
Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West: I absolutely love Kasie West. Quite honestly, all her books are perfect summer reads. But Listen to Your Heart takes the cake. It follows Kate, who isn’t a fan of talking but gets a job giving advice on her school’s podcast. There’s cute boys, a whirlwind romance and great friendships.
Open Road Summer by Emery Lord: This is the perfect contemporary read for summer. Between old breakups, new romance, music and road trips, it’ll be a quick book to read at the beach or pool!
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson: Morgan Matson is one of my favourite contemporary authors. Second Chance Summer will make you laugh and cry all in one sitting. It follows Taylor as she heads to her family’s beach house for the summer. She reconnects with old friends and past relationships all while mending the bonds of her family.
Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian: If you’re looking for a summer book with strong female characters, than this one is for you. Stay Sweet follows Amelia as she works at the local ice cream stand that has been run by girls for years. Once the owner’s grandson Grady tries to make some changes, she desperately works to save the traditions of the stand.
Summer Days and Summer Nights edited by Stephanie Perkins: If short stories are more your thing, than this is the perfect book. With twelve stories about summer and love, it’s an easy book that will leave you wanting more.
The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen: This book is one of my favourite summer reads. It follows Emma Saylor as she spends the summer at the lake with her mother’s family. It’s the sweetest summer book because she reconnects with old friends and learns more about her family.
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han: If you’re a fan of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, you definitely need to try this book. It’s all about Belly, who goes to spend the summer at the beach. Between crushes, new boys and nostalgia for the past, it’s a summer full of changes.
I absolutely love contemporary reads because they are perfect to read in the summer. With that, I hope you all enjoyed this list of 10 young adult books to read this summer!

I hate hot weather, so summer is actually my least favorite season. I do like the lazy, dazy summer feeling, though! And these covers definitely convey that. They’re lovely!
Happy TTT!
