Andie had it all planned out. When you are a politician’s daughter who’s pretty much raised yourself, you learn everything can be planned or spun, or both. Especially your future.
Important internship? Check. Amazing friends? Check. Guys? Check (as long as we’re talking no more than three weeks).
But that was before the scandal. Before having to be in the same house with her dad. Before walking an insane number of dogs. That was before Clark and those few months that might change her whole life. Because here’s the thing — if everything’s planned out, you can never find the unexpected. And where’s the fun in that?
The Unexpected Everything Review
The Unexpected Everything is my very first Morgan Matson read. And let me say, it certainly won’t be my last. I really, really loved this book.
The Unexpected Everything follows Andie, a super organized and driven girl who has her life planned out. After a scandal changes the course of her summer, she ends up having one of the best, unplanned summers ever.
Andie is a fantastic main character. She’s relatable and overall, just so adorable. I loved witnessing her character arc throughout the book. She goes from being this super organized girl to one that embraces change.
Her friendships throughout the book really adds to the story. Morgan Matson writes such fantastic friends that you can’t help but want to be a part of their group. I can’t even count the number of times I wanted to be there – especially during their epic scavenger hunt!
The boy characters are also great. Andie’s dad is great and I enjoyed the progression of his character throughout the book. I also really loved Tom and Wyatt’s crazy antics!
Morgan Matson writes incredible relationships that are so relatable. Like the girl with the long-time boyfriend, or the girl who thinks she’s perpetually single. But I enjoyed witnessing Andie’s perspective on relationships change throughout the book. It’s a really relatable aspect of the book.
But most of all, I loved loved loved Clark! I mean who wouldn’t right? All book lovers would have to feel a connection to Clark since he’s a writer. But Morgan Matson does an amazing job of showing the slow transition that happens in young love – from awkwardness, to friendship, to not being able to be without them. It’s just so sweet!
The Unexpected Everything is so cute and sweet. I totally recommend this book to anyone who loves contemporary romance. But also to people who love great books.
This certainly will not be my last Morgan Matson book and I can definitely see myself re-reading this one in the future!
